Sailor Moon

It's a mini-update! It's amazing, after a long dry spell, in the past couple of weeks, I've gotten some of the best dolls I've ever added to my collection.

Sailor Moon
Here she is, the very first Sailor Moon doll! This doll was produced for the first season of Sailor Moon, before Bandai had quite figured out what a marketing bonanza they had on their hands. She wears a real cloth outfit (including underwear), but has molded hair, and looks very much like a figure model. The box includes only character profiles of Ami, Rei, and the mysterious Tuxedo Mask. (It adds a goofy kick to the packaging that a lot of Tux's characteristics, such as blood type and astrological sign, are listed as "?????") This seems to indicate that the doll was developed for marketing before Makoto and Minako were introduced to the storyline, as well as before Tux was unmasked as Mamoru. (Boy, that one was a surprise, huh?) :-)
Spanish Talking Sailor Moon
Another (and most elusive) doll in the Bandai Asia series of talking Sailor Moon dolls. Although the box is written in English, French, German, Spanish and Dutch, I have as yet only seen dolls that speak Spanish, French and German. The sticker on the front of the box indicates this gal was intended for the Mexican market.

Jenny!

Casual Jenny List Kisara
Look what was waiting for me at my mailbox last night! It's a custom Jenny doll, made especially for fans and friends of Darla Tanaka's Casual Jenny mailing list. The doll has a Kisara head mold rooted with long, straight black hair, and the "Jenny 18" body. She's wearing a little custom "Casual Jenny @ hashi.com" mini-dress, and comes with shoes and (of course) a shopping bag, so she can go shopping at Totoco. If you'll look closely, you can see the little CJ button made especially by Darla's niece. For more information about the Casual Jenny mailing list, please see Darla's Web Page.
Color Change Hair Licca
Color Change Hair Izumi
Licca and her friend Izumi take a chapter from the old Color Magic Barbie dolls, with hair that changes color when you use the included scary-looking hairbrush. In Licca's case from brownish to bright red. Izumi transforms from dark green to bright green.

Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne

Jeanne
Marron
Sinbad
Chiaki
These little figures are all from a relatively new anime, Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne. At around 6" scale, they are on the borderline between dolls and action figures. They have bendy (as opposed to jointed limbs), real hair and real clothes. I like the packaging, which includes lots of little items, such as Jeanne and Sinbad's guardian angels. The back of the card shows some more toys in the line.

Anime and Other Assorted Nonsense

A Man Called Hero
This doll is from the live action series A Man Called Hero. The actor's name is Ekin Cheng. The figure is approximately 12" scale, very jointed, and comes with an extra pair of hands. I really adore the packaging on this figure! Here's a look at the image from the front of the box. And here's the image on the back of the box. By the way, the doll, and the information about him, comes from the incomparable Rudi Teruel. Please take a look at his web page for some other fabulous finds from Asia.
Hayami Tetsu
This surly fellow is a character from the newer anime show, Blue Submarine No. 6 (aka, Ao no 6 Go). This innovative anime combines cel drawings with computer-generated scenes (not always successfully, but the mix is definitely interesting). Tetsu, from the two episodes I've seen, seems to spend much of his time slumping around, shirtless, smoking cigarettes. Fans will be delighted to find that he is indeed shirtless under that trenchcoat, and sports his trademark suspenders! Tsukuda Hobby has also included lots of neat stuff, like guns and accessories. You can purchase dubbed Blue Submarine No. 6 tapes from Animevillage.com. Unfortunately, Bandai, in it's infinite wisdom, has chosen to release this show at one show per tape, so unfortunately, I think the two episodes I already own are all I'm ever going to see of this show.
Maeter
Oh boy, oh boy! I've waited a long time to finally get my hands on this Yellow Submarine version of the Galaxy Express 999 character. I should note, these last two dolls were purchased from the innovative web dealer, Hobby Link Japan.
Adi Gallia
OK, so it's not anime. But you know what this is? This is the world's first Jedi Girl action figure! How cool is that? And she's got her jedi robe, and her little pink lightsaber (ok, so it's red). The Adi Gallia figure is kind of hard to find right now, but using my vast reperetoire of jedi mind tricks ("Oooo, can I have an Adi Gallia, please please please?"), I managed to wheedle one from my smart (and good looking) husband. Write to Hasbro.com, and ask for them to make more Adi Gallia figures, and maybe an Adi Gallia dolls, and some Jedi Girl lightsabers for us. It's cool to be a Jedi Girl!

Coming Soon

Card Captor Sakura dolls
These images are all from the pages of Hobby Japan magazine. Here's some small (6" scale) Card Captor Sakura dolls and outfits. I've seen the dolls at a Con. They are bendy, like the Jeanne dolls, and come carded. I thought the outfits were really cute.
Who's that girl?
Whoa! Who is that kimono girl?
Samurai guy
Corky pointed out this cool doll. His pony tail is bendy!
