The What's Nuevo
Archives
Boy, there was so much neat new stuff this month, I don't even
know where to start! Almost any of these items would have been my
featured item in a normal month.
Sailor Moon in Tunisia!
- Petty Soldier Sailor Moon
watch
- I adore this piece! It's not just that my charming (and
good-looking!) husband bought this bootleg watch for me on a recent trip
to Tunisa. And it's not just that this unlicensed item has the usual
amusing spelling errors ("Petty Soldier Sailor
Moon") and inconsistencies (although the card says "Sailor Moon R,"
the watch clearly says "Sailor Moon S"). I am
just blown away that you can buy Sailor Moon merchandise in freakin'
North Africa!
Jenny-o-rama!
- Happy Color Jenny (Yellow)
- I guess the big news in Jenny's World this month is that I
finally completed my set of Happy
Color Jenny dolls. Here's a glimpse at MoteMote, the yellow-haired
happpy doll. Her hair is actually not as yellow as I'd thought, but more
of a light blond.
- Licca Castle Jenny!
- This flaming redhead was offered only at the Licca Castle. She looks
kind of like a lost Happy Color doll.
- School Coordinate Kisara
- .....or, as I like to call her, "Kogal Kisara." Isn't she
cute? I love the pale lips. Takara really has a knack for making school
kid dolls that really look like school kids.
- Doll Knight Licca
- Remember Super Doll Knight
Licca? This is the other set of three dolls from the new anime about
Takara's favorite little fashion doll.
- Doll Knight Isamu
- Infinite recursion time: these are actually action figures based on a
cartoon based on a fashion doll. I wonder if some evil person will take
it one step further, and write an anime based on these action figures
coming to life? And would toys for that show be dolls???
- Doll Knight Izumi
- OK, OK, I know I promised to cart these puppies out and play with them
when I got the last set, and that's been months ago now. What if I take
out my wind-up Pikachu and play with him instead?
Howling at the Moon
- Ami in school fuku
- This doll is from the R series, and had been high on my wants list for
a long time now. As far as I know, Sailor Moon R (the second season) was
the first time Usagi's buddies, the sailor senshi, were produced as dolls.
Bandai produced on set of senshi in fighting outfits, and one wearing
school uniforms (or in Rei's case, a temple outfit). Here's a close-up.
- SukiSuki Rei
- Another
really amazing early doll. This Rei is from the Sailor Moon S series.
The SukiSuki dolls were a series of the five inner senshi wearing street
clothes. To my surprise, this box still has its seal intact, which is why
I was too compulsive to open it up for a close-up shot. Thanks again,
Corky!!!
- Milord
- Yet another doll that's been high on my wants list for a
million billion years, this is the Giochi Preziosi version of our pal,
Tuxedo Kamen. However, in Italia, we learn he is "Il misterioso amico di Sailor
Moon." Remember how Darien calls Serena "meatball-head" in the English
dub? Check it out: this guy is a total watermelon head!
- Professor Tomoe
- Woo-hoo! The 11" version of everybody's favorite mad scientist. This
doll is from the unstoppable Irwin Toys of Canada.
Magic Knight Rayearth UFO Dolls
Remember how I said that this month every toy deserves to be a
special feature? That's definitely how I feel about this wonderful set of SD plushies from Magic
Knight Rayearth.
- Set 1
- I think the first character is Presea (although her outfit looks
wrong, Mokona, and Primera. Do I really need another Mokona toy?
YES!!!!
- Set 2
- Fuu, Umi and Hikaru wearing some alternate outfits.
- Set 3
- Fuu's honey Ferio, Emeraude and Ascot. I love getting SD villains
(even though Ascot is already kinda SD).
- Set 4
- Hikaru with a kendo sword, Fuu with a bow and arrow, and Umi with a
fencing epee.
- Set 5
- Fuu, Umi and Hikaru with their level 1 battle armor and swords.
- Set 6
- A frowning trio! Lantis, Guru Clef and "Mr. Smiles" Zagato.
- Set 7
- Here are the two "hidden" plushies in the set--they didn't make it to
the tag: Eagle Vision and Asuka.
But wait, there's more....
- Pikachu wind-up surf board
- I am desperately trying to avoid all things Pokemon-related, but I
just melted to this little hang-10 Pikachu.
- Mikage doll
- Never thought I'd find a Miracle Girls doll, much less one that
actually has an action feature. This Mikage doll evidently talks or sings
when you press a button. The back
of the box shows yet more dolls in the series.
- Gendou puzzle
- This great item (from my buddy Corky's recent shopping trip to Japan)
features everybody's favorite evil EVA guy, Gendou. Corky and I have
pretty much given up hope of ever getting a Gendou doll (they won't even
make a Shinji doll, unless it's a stupid limited edition just intended to
drive us crazy), much less Gendou plushies, Gendou keychains, Gendou
gentle conditioning shampoo, or all of the other brilliant merchandise we
coule imagine.
- Star Wars puzzles
- Some nice artwork on these teeny Japanese Star Wars colletibles. But
wait, there is another! And another, this one attractively carded.
