Happy New Year!
Well, I thought I ought to at least get in the January update before we
run out of January! How is everybody's 1999 going? I've spent the entire
year so far with a head cold that mutated into a sinus infection. (OK,
everybody, "EWWWW!") But, I'm off antibioticss, and lookin' buff, as you
can see from this photo.
BTW, while we're at sharing silly photos, here's a picture of my sweetie, posing in front of a whole lotta Star
Wars stuff. Did you know that a certain Evil Toy Company is trying to
shut down his web site? Bummer!
Oops! Forgot some Jenny stuff....
Just got a big bag o' neat Jenny stuff from my friend Carl, so I
thought I'd sneak it in here.
- October 98 Calendar Girl
- I drove all the way down to Renton just to get this doll! OK, the
outfit would be considered a criminal offense in many of the 50 states,
but the hair is incredible.
Although it looks all blue in the photographs, it's actually light blue
mixed with green. Soon as I get a house with some display room,
I'm gonna haul this gal out of her box and put her in a cool outfit.
- Totoco Kisara
- Well, as you know, the Totoco shop has caught on to collectors'
fascination with this side-glancing Jenny friend, so they've been issuing
Kisara variations up the yin-yang. Along with the red- and blue-haired
dolls, there are two
variations of this black-haired Kisara, with long and short hair. I
think this one, with a bob
actually looks more like Lie than Kisara. (Course, it's six of one, half
dozen of the other, since it's kind of arbitrary on Takara's part who they
call Lie and who they call Kisara.)
- Scary Jenny hair!
- The first time I became aware of this Jenny accessory was when Masaki
showed me a photograph in a Takara catalog. "Here, you need to get this!"
he advised. "AAAAARGH!" I screamed. And, it is just as scary in person.
- Pretty Soldier Sailor Jenny
dress
- OK, this is actually just a Jenny coordinate dress, but I thought it
was amusing that it resembles Sailor Jupiter's fighting uniform so
closely. (Though actually, Jupiter has a pink bow, not a red one.)
- Way cute little Jenny accessory
packs
- These are a couple of cute little Jenny accessory packs. The one on
the left is some teeny-weeny Ellie cosmetics. The one on the right is the
real treasure though--it includes not only Jenny's Walkman, but Jenny's
cel phone, so Jenny can annoy other drivers while she'd driving around in
her Jenny car!
New Moon on Monday
OK, don't pretend you don't get the reference above. I know
you were in the 80s--I saw you there! And here's some more new Moon, not
from Duran Duran, but from Irwin and Bandai.
6" Scale Irwin dolls
- Super Sailor Moon
- Kudos to Irwin Toys of Canada--these may not be the most
aesthetically pleasing Sailor Moon dolls in the world, but they've more
than made up for it by putting out oodles and oodles of new costumes and
obscure characters. F'rinstance, here's Moon in her Super Sailor Moon
duds.
- Sailor Pluto
- Pluto 'n her trusty glave. It's nice to see some North American outer
senshi dolls.
- Sailor Neptune
- This is the first set that soul sisters Neptune and Uranus have
appeared in. There's also supposed to be 12" versions of these dolls, but
I have yet to find 'em.
- Sailor Uranus
- I know Uranus is supposed to be kinda androgynous-looking, and I guess
you could maybe take this doll for one of Herman's Hermits.
- Prof. Tomoe
- I've saved the very best for last. Talk about poufy hair! Poor ol'
Tomoe looks like Patty Duke!
Bandai Japan Sailor Moon R dolls
- Sailor Moon
- These aren't really new, they're just new to my collection. The "R"
series was the second season of Sailor Moon, and the season they really
started to merchandise the series. R stuff is getting harder to find
these days, so it's totally cool to find these terrific dolls.
- Sailor Jupiter
- There's
also a Chibi Moon in the R set, as well as each individual girl in her
school uniform.
- Sailor Mars
- Mars is one doll in the R set who isn't available wearing her school
uniform--instead, you can find her wearing her temple robes. These
outfits are also available separately.
Various stuff
- You Morisawa doll
- Another in the Lovely Gals series, this image (the character is from
the Creamy Mami anime) was sent to me by Ethan, a loyal reader who's
probably despairing of ever seeing her up on the page! Sorry it took so
long, but this doll is definitely worth the wait.
- Pink Happy Color Jenny
- I've had this doll for months, but can't remember whether I've shown
her on the page before. To recap, there's a set of three of these Happy
Color Jenny dolls, one in blue (which I have), one in yellow (which I'm
looking for), and one in pink, pictured here. Remember, it's not
just color, it's happy color!
- Tonde Burin anime cel
- Everywhere there's lots of piggies, especially in Tonde Burin. I
don't know jack about the show, but isn't this the cutest cel?
- Hime-chan no Ribbon doll
- Did you know they made dolls for Hime-Chan no Ribbon? Well,
why didn't you tell me, Mr. Smarty-Pants! This doll is super-cute,
and what's better, it comes in ultra-cute packaging. From the back of the box, it looks like they also
made a little necklace, and various other toys for the show.
- Mai Shiranui
- Ooo, watch out, it's another killer chick from a video game! Mai is
evidently from something called "Real Body 2: The Newcomers," and she
looks like she's not messing around. Hey, is anybody else playing Legend
of Zelda on N64? I was thinking the other day, it would be cool to have a
Link doll or something. (Not an action figure, I mean a doll with
real hair and stuff.) I just wonder how they'd make those "fairy
fountain" creatures--you know, those chicks who come up out of the water
dress in their skivvies, and then lean waaaaay over to give you
heart points? Boy, that would be an engineering feat!
- Tougo Arai
- Ooo, hunk alert! This dyed-hair fellow is from Graduation, which I
gather is a role-playing game where you try to link up with the cutest
boys. I wonder if it's anything like Mystery Date, where you may end up
with Bill Gates instead?
- Another Graduation doll
- Don't know this guy's name, because I received the wrong doll, but I
just fell in love and decided not to send him back. He looks suspiciously
Raph-like with all that blond hair. Or, maybe it's just the long-awaited
Kato Kaelin doll! :-)
- Gatchaman plushies
- A day
without Gatchaman is like.....a day without Battle of the Planets! This
is a new Eagle Ken UFO catcher doll (center) that came in a set with
plushies form assorted other shows. Which shows, you ask? Who the hell
cares, I just want my Gatchaman!!!
