Merry Ku-ri-su-ma-su!
Just got back from ye olde anime tchotchke shoppe, Majin Do, where the
kindly proprietor, Masaki, was engaged in his favorite passtime,
harrassing his customers! "Why haven't you updated your web site?
What's the deal?" he asked. Well, various and sundry reasons. I have
been extremely busy of late, dealing with the holiday season:
procrastinating about Xmas shopping, putting off sending my Xmas cards,
avoiding decorating the tree. This takes time and mental energy!
Plus, I've been kinda broke of late, due to us saving for a house, plus I
found the cutest pair of eyeglasses at this frame shop on Queen
Anne, which of course also set me back a bundle, due to the fact that I
couldn't resist also getting the adorable sunglasses clips, even though
I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to put that paticular accessory to use,
here in Seattle.
Anyway anyway, enough of my babbling, you wanna see some pix and hear
some fax, right? Well, what are you waiting for.....
Truly silly Jenny dolls
- Hinano Yoshikawa
- What's Kurisumasu without Jenny? And especially without Jenny's
newest, bestest friend, the Pippi Longstocking-coiffed Hinano Yoshikawa.
The doll is a scream, and the special heart-shaped box just adds to the
fun. My friend Leslie really wanted to buy this doll, too, but in a
holiday-inspired mood of pure avarice, I bought Masaki's only one. 'Tis
the season to be greedy!
- Totoco red-haired Raph
- Totoco's run of weird-haired friend dolls continues with bunch o'
Raphs. There are actually four different dolls in the set (that I know of
anyway): red and blue-haired, both in long and short versions. This is
(obviously) the long-haired, Kato Kalein-inspired version of redhead Raph.
Here's a picture of the doll boxed doll. You can see the boxes
are similar to those used for the red- and blue-haired Kisara dolls.
- Totoco blue-haired Raph
- This is long, blue-haired Raph. BTW, Raph acutally used the same head
mold as Boyfriend Tom, which means these weird-haired dolls could
also be considered part of my Tom collection. At least, that's how
I justified getting several of them. Here's what the doll looks like in box.
- Curly-haired Totoco Kisara
- Another in Totoco's "Let's see just how many Kisara dolls those fools
will buy before they scream!" series. I guess the answer is, "Lots." This
is kind of a California beach-girl incarnation of our fave side-glancing
Jenny friend. Note from a peek inside the box that she come
with just about everything a girl needs: designer underwear, and a set of
black stiletto heels.
- Super Doll Knight Licca
- These last three dolls are from a new anime based on the adventures of
Licca-chan. From what I understand, a little girl named Licca actually
transforms into a Licca doll. And, instead of gathering dust on some
collectors shelf, she goes out and has adventures!
- Super Doll Knight Izumi
- These are a great example of the old "Is it a doll/Is it an action
figure?" boundary cases. They have molded hair, but real cloth outfits.
They are super-jointed, and come carded.
- Super Doll Knight Isamu
- I've heard the jointing on these dolls is just incredible.
Unfortunately, the bubble has been attached to the card with lots and lots
of scotch tape, and I don't feel like cutting it open tonight.
Various stuff
- Takara body Vampire Princess
Miyu
- Before there was Buffy, there was a Japanese schoolgirl who went
around being a vampire, dammit, as well as sending those nasty,
nasty shinma back to the darkness. This version of Miyu has the 11 inch
scale Super Action Jenny body, and real hair. The cool thing is, she's
almost the right scale for the Tsukuda Hobby Rava doll. For you
compulsive types, here's a look at the doll in box. This is the TV version of
Miyu, by the way, where she occasionally makes like Sailor Moon with some
colorful, elaborate attacks, and long speeches.
- Tonde Burin Pig Girl
- I'll admit, I have absolutely no information about this anime. But
isn't this pig girl just the cutest? You can also put her hood up so she can have pig ears!
- Tonde Burin Flying Pig
- The best UFO catcher yet for those of us fond of the phrase, "When
pigs fly." If you'll notice, this one has a suction cup, so you can stick
it up over you desk at work, and further convince you officemates of your
lack of touch with reality!
