Happy Weird Hair New Year!

One of my resolutions for 2003 was to WORK ON THE FREAKIN' PAGE ONCE IN A WHILE! (Though, in my resolution, I didn't say "freakin.'" Cover your ears, kiddies!) And what better way to celebrate 2003 with our old favorite, Weird Hair (tm)?

JeNnY

Sigh. Jenny dolls are like potato chips. Well, except they're not salted, and you can't eat them with tunafish sandwiches. But other than that! Can't buy just one.

Licca-chan Club 67 color change hair set
I saved the best for first. You can quit reading now! These dolls were only available at Licca-chan Club 67 shops, and according to what I've read, were sold out within about 30 seconds. But! With time and patience (and aggressive use of Yahoo! Japan auctions, plus begging and wheedling), I have finally completed my set. Kisara is in the wrong box, but the Club 67 boxes aren't that exciting anyway, and besides, you'll want to debox these dolls to play with the hair. Kisara's hair goes from purple to blue and back again. Yay!
Kiddyland Kisara
This and the following weird haired dolls were evidently available only by special order from the Japanese store Kiddyland a few years back. I bought them from my old buddy, David Hammon, and y'all ought to visit his webpage, as it might learn ya somethin'! Here's a close-up of her side-glancing face.
Kiddyland Aya and Sheena
Two more of the Kiddyland SAJ body weird-haired dolls. Here's a close-up of Sheena's face (love that hair color!), and Aya, with her distinctive eyeprint.
Kiddyland Lina dolls
Two different Lina dolls from the same series as above. Here's a close up on Purple Gal's face. The gal with the red highlight is my fave of the set, though I'm not usually a Lina fan. Here's a pix of her in a Super Action Jenny outfit (she's the one in the lower right, near the Nekobus).
Castle Lina
Yet another cool Lina doll, which I inherited from a nice person on Biscuit's Club. I like the mix of red and black hair on this doll.
Castle Jenny Friend
Believe it or not, this poor purple-haired girl's only name is really "Jenny Friend"--it says so right on her box. C'mon Takara, at least name her after a French dessert or something.
Castle Mitsuki
This was another doll you could only get by ordering directly from Licca-chan castle. Her hair is a very cool weave of pink 'n red.
Licca Town Licca-chan
Speaking of cool weaves (a new obsession!), check out this "Licca Town" doll. I bought her because her cool packaging and accessories. I thought her hair looked pink, but upon close inspection, it appears to be a weave of red and white.
Totoco Marine
They sure love to do Marine with bizarre hair colors! This gal is one of my faves, crowned with a veritable explosion of red and black hair. A close-up of her face (and yes, it's in there somewhere, amid all the hair!).

Anime Dolls!

'Cause this is "Attack of the Anime Toys!" and not, say, "Attack of the Weird-Haired Jenny Dolls!" or "Attack of Whatever the Hell Pam Wants This Afternoon!" (which is probably more accurate).

Way Big Five Star Stories Doll
This is one way big doll, yessir. She could stomp Tokyo! She could beat up Ken! (Well, I guess even Care Bears could do that.) Here's her way big face.
Trouble Chocolate Doll
Don't know this character's name. I had a heckuva time even translating the title (until I realized it was written in English on the dolls's backing, duh!). Anyways, here's her face. Looks like another school anime, but I've no clue if it's even shoujo or shonen.
Ruri
A new version of our Nadeshiko heroine (zzzzz!). I do like the face paint on this one, with big ol' sparkley anime eyes.
Pretty Sammi
A Pretty Sammi doll by Sonokong, a Korean toy company. Pretty Sammi is a Sailor Moon parody from the Tenchi universe. Love the box art! Here's the back of the box.
Steel Angel
Ah, pink hair. What could be better....
Angelic Layer
....Why, pink hair AND pink eyes!
Italian Doremi dolls
Bandai and GiG teamed up to make some pretty cool Doremi dolls. Pictured above is my fave, the talking version of Doremi. And she talking Italian! Oh joy! Here's another large scale (about 18") Doremi doll with an extra outfit, and her cohort in magic, "Lullaby" (aka Anpu). They also made a smaller scaled dolls, like "Melody" (aka, Hazuki).
Tokyo Mew Mew
Here's the SECOND series of little Takara Tokyo Mew Mew dolls, all dressed in their cafe waitress uniforms. Love the shoes with little bitty pink hearts on them.
Ellis
A new Takara version of the Battle Arena Toshinden character, Ellis (she's the one on the left). On the right is an older version of the doll. Definitely prefer the newer packaging on this one!
Black and White
And not weird-haired (just weird-everything else), I couldn't resist slapping up this image of these Black and White dolls. This manga used to run in the late, lamented Pulp magazine. But for now, I have my dolls.

This page was written to "Where I Belong: The Songs of Ray Davies and the Kinks" and "Dusty in Memphis," both available at Amazon.com, your source for books, music, and so much more!
