What's Nuevo?
Hey,kids, time for another semi-annual update!
So many toys....so little time on the Mac! It's time to attend to that great pile of Misfit Toys, and babble on about a few of My Favorite Thnigs.
Kisara!
That's right, who doesn't like Kisara, Jenny's club-hopping, side-glancing pal? Oh, probably some awful mean nasty people who live under rocks, and with whom we would not associate! Here's a few images from the collection, some old, some new, some borrowed, some with blue hair.
- Licca-chan Castle Kisara
- You know the drill--somewhere over in Jennyland (that's Japan to you) there lies a magical castle, where those of us who love cute can go on a charter bus tour and while away our days touring the Takara equivalent of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Oompa Loompas who cooked up this particular Kisara were especially fiendish, adapting the peek-a-boo Veronica Lake-style hairdo to Our Heroine.
- Daitokouji Kisara
- This doll comes from among the first batch of Kisaras (Kisarae??) produced by Takara. Initially, Kisara was one of Jenny's few friends to be favored with a surname (Daitokouji), kind of like Cher in reverse. This gal has the trademark side-glancing eyes and short, punky haircut of the original Kisara dolls. You can see some other variations in the pamphlet that was included in the box. You can also see that this particluar doll is missing a couple of her accessories, like a braid attachment and shoes. Some of the dolls also came with Wayfarer-like sunglasses.
- More Weird Hair Kisara Dolls
- Kisara has become one of the most popular of Jenny's cronies, as evidenced by the multiplicity of variations offered by Takara. Since I specialize in collecting dolls with odd hair, here's just a few of my recent faves. On the left is a Kisara with a blond 'fro offered by the Totoco shop, a closet-sized Jenny mecca in Japan. This doll was also available in brunette. In the middle is a lovely lavender-coiffed Kisara offered by Takara Bako, the mail order arm of Takara. This is probably one of my most favorite dolls every. On this particular occasion, Kisara was also available in a frighteningly overgrown curly brunette hairstlye. On the right is another Totoco doll, a pink-haired Kisara. This gal was also available wearing a becoming green bob. But, I am running out of space in my digital camera, so will leave these Kisara permutations to a later date.
Jenny
- Music Calendar Girl Premium Doll
- Every time you think the Jenny line is veering into insulin-shock sweetness, they produce a doll like this one and restore your faith in fabulousness. This gal was a premium for folks who collected every single one of the Music Calendar Girl line. She is faboo! She's dressed in a full-length, faux fur coat over a gold lame gown, and she's got great, huuuuuge hair. Worth the wait.
Anime/collectors dolls
OK, so this site is actually titled "Attack of the Anime Toys!" and not, "Attack of the Weird-Haired Kisara Dolls! So let us proceed apace then to viewing some dolls based on anime and/or other aspects of Japanese pop culture.
- Lain
- Cuuuuuuuuuute! This gal was produced for the Noix de Rome shop (thus the green box) and supposedly only available at a doll show. The teddy bear outfit is a scream.
- Boogie Pop Phantom and Schoolgirl
- I've been looking for these gals just forever. Well, for at least a couple years. They were originally available as an offer from Takara Bako, and I had completely forgotten about them until somebody showed images on Biscuit's Club a while back. A set later turned up on Yahoo! J auctions, and I greedily snapped them up. Boogie Pop is another series I have on DVDs which are still wrapped in cello. But I have the dolls dammit!
- Persia
- Aha! I have actually seen an episode of Persia! I've not much to say about it, except she's from Africa, and she comes to Japan and becomes a magical girl, and she has blue hair. Cool.
- Darkness Caty
- In which Azone exploits the Goth craze, much to the delight of collectors, and the disgust of our credit card companies. Wish I had a better image of this gal, as she's one of my recent favorites. That's real ties on her bodice, and her boots come with real laces.
But now my husband is kicking me off the computer again. But what about my shion dolls, hide plushies, talking Sailor Moon? AAAAAARGH......
