Really, really, really big dolls

Egad, has it really been 500 years since I updated this silly page? Well, how are you? How are the kids? And the grandkids? And the great-grandkids? OK, OK. Me, I've developed a taste for really, really, REALLY big dolls, which has somewhat slowed my acquisition of new items, due to the regrettable financial impact. For comparison's sake, if collecting Japanese anime dolls is the budgetary equivalent of sniffing crack, then collecting Super Dollfies and their ilk is like sniffing platinum bars. And too bad if they get jammed in your nostrils!

Big, big, big dollies

Super Dollfie Tohya
Oooo, dreamy. As y'all no doubt know by now, Super Dollfies are made by Volks. They're not only big, but heavy, and arrive in a big old box with lotsa padding (watch it, kiddies, these are pix of nekkid dollies!). Tohya sports a Super Dollfie 13 body, which means he's kinda more tall and thin (and grown-up looking) than the standard SD's. He sports a pair o' glass eyes and real eyelashes. Sigh.
Super Dollfie Chii
As you might know, Super Dollfie's are incredibly detailed, realistic dolls produced by Volks in Japan. At a good 24" tall, they are big enough to soundly stomp all over your Barbie collection. And, information in certain second-rate newsweekly notwithstanding, the first Super Dollfie to my knowledge which was explicitly based on an anime character is this cutie, based on the character Chii, the "persocom" from Chobits. As the resin-based Super Dollfie bodies can be a bit fragile, Chii arrived on a bed of comfy-looking padding. I believe here distinctive brown eyes are exclusive to this doll. You can see her posed with her own fictional character her. She was also good enough to snap a picture with my Dollfie Dream Mirai (wearing her new cosplay outfit) and Abigail, my "Pullip-stein" (basically, a Pullip doll head grafted onto an Azone 60 cm body).
Dollfie Dream Asakura Nemu
As you can see from her rather large orange box, this chara is from a rather strange anime called Da Capo. (According to my friend, Tania, Da Capo started life as a dating RPG, which would somewhat explain the far-fetched story.) She is a Dollfie Dream vinyl doll, once again from Volks, a sinister toy company that wants your money and will do anything to get it. She's approximately the size of Volks's Super Dollfie dolls, but her vinyl composition makes her much lighter. Here's a look at her body, front and back. I bought her partly for her striking green eyes. Here she is, bewigged and hanging out with SD Tohya.
Dollfie Dream Ayanami Rei
"She's Rei, wrapped in plastic."Sure I already have a million billion dolls of Rei from EVA. But this is the biggest damn Rei ever! She's a Volks Dollfie Dream, so comes with some neat Signs-like hieroglyphyics on the box. DD's come completely nekkid and bald. Rei also has some exclusive albino red eyes. This version comes with her school uniform, as well as a one-piece bathing suit and NERV beach towel, although she seems to prefer my kitchen dish towel for sunbathing. Obligatory comparison shot: Rei poses with Dollfie Dream Mirai, who soon has swiped Rei's stylish blue wig.
Tokyo Weather Forecast Kotori
One of my favorite, favorite, favorite dolls ever comes from Azone Tokyo Weather Forecast series of dolls. Why? First off, Kotori's got a great face, maybe the cutest face paint I've ever seen on an Azone doll (which, to be fair, features some pretty sappy-looking dolls). She comes with some neat accessories too, like these groovy moccasin boots. Azone has changed the construction of their large scale dolls as well. For better or worse, they now have soft bodies. My Tohya doll grseems impressed anyway.
Sahra Favorite Time 60 cm
Azone is a bit of a late entry in the Biggest Damn Doll in the World brouhaha, but they have the advantage, I think, of having the most posable of the big dolls. In fact, I've used the Azone 60 cm body on a couple of my hybrid dolls, such as Abigail, who has the head of a Jun Planning Pullip doll atop and azone body. I've had a lot of fun swapping out Sahra's schoolgirl outfit for something a bit more racey. Here she's trying to be Adriana from the Sopranos. Here's Sahra posing along with Abigail (another hybrid doll) and Mirai (a Dollfie Dream in her bunny suit).
Maya Heart of Gold 60 cm
Another of Azone International's entries into the "I'm as big as a Dollfie, dammit sweepstakes, here's brown-eyed 60 cm version of their Maya doll. Here she is hanging with my rather saucy Dollfie Dream Mirai.
