Dolls
Sega CharaDolls Selection Series
These are 11" (1:6 scale) dolls made by Sega.
- Sakura Shinguji
- The star of our show.
- Ri Kouran
- Isn't she great? You can't see it too well on the scan, but she even
has purple freckles.
- Sumire
- OK, so this is the 11" scale Sumire doll from Sega, not to be mistaken for the 14"
scale Tsukuda Hobby Sumire doll (see below). She is in addition number 04 in the
CharaDoll Selection series along with Ri, Sakura and Utena. Confused yet?
Tsukuda Hobby Full Action Doll Series
14" (1:5 scale) dolls manufactured by Tsukuda Hobby.
- Sakura Shinguji in battle
outfit
- This doll is probably my single favorite Sakura Taisen piece.
- Sakura Shinguji in kimono
- These dolls are about 14" scale, so they're taller than Sega's
CharaDoll Selection series dolls. They
are also very, very articulated.
- Ri Kouran
- She kicks butt! To demonstrate, as well as to prove that yes,
Virginia, I do open my dolls, so get that self-satisfied expression
off your face, here is an image of Ri striking a pose. Here is an image
of Ri dating my Boba Fett doll.
(The Boba has a weakness for freckles.)
- Sumire
- Another Tsukuda Hobby doll. Hang on to that kimono, Sumire!
- Kanna
- I mistakenly thought this was a male character. Well, was I
ever wrong. Turns out, Kanna is just a way big girl! (So sue me--I just
buy 'em, I don't play 'em. I'm still trying to figure out Yoshi's world!)
Anyway, look at the detailing on this fiery redhead. She comes with hands
balled into fists, but she also has an extra set of hands.
- Maria
- This is the one I've been waiting for. Blond hair over one eye, and a
trench coat. Too cool!
- Iris Chateaubriand
- At long last, the final Sakura Wars character. (Though there are ugly
rumors that they're going to change the outfits and start again
with the series----AAAAAARGH!) Check out the inside of the box. Awww! She's even got her
teddy!
Action Figures
Well, I was really trying to avoid getting into collecting Japanese
action figures, but the Final Fantasy VII figures totally melted my
resistance. However, I think these Sakura Wars figures are even
better! Admittedly, I was not too impressed by the pictures of the
loose figures I've seen on the net. Believe me, the images did not do
them justice. The sculpting, paint, packaging, and presentation all
shine. How long has it been since you just took a US carded figure out
and stared at it? These figures look that good.
[In case it's not obvious, this was my first go-round with a digital
camera. So the images were as good as I could make them.]
Sega Real Model Collection Sakura Wars Figures
Each of these figures not only comes on a unique, beautiful card.
There is also a unique cd bundled with Sakura, Ri and Iris.
- Sakura Shinguji
- Look at the detail on the hair and the sweeping gown. O, action
figure heaven!
- Ri Kouran
- Ri Kouran is my fave. Obsessive detail: she's wearing "real"
glasses, with clear plastic lenses!
- Iris Chateaubriand
- Depicted with her teddy. Awwwww!
- Sumire
- Continuing our Sakura Taisen theme, here's the newest in the Sega
action figure series for that game, she of the decolletege, Sumire. And,
no, these are not Bandai LM figures. Even though they left out the neato
keeno cd's this time, these are still pretty darned swell action figures.
Bandai LM Figure Set Sakura Wars Figures
These figures are of the same scale (8") as the Sega set, and two of
them even have similar card art. These depict the heroines in their power
up suits. In some ways, each character's color scheme seems a little
more accurate in this set (Ri Kouran, for example, has her distinctive
purple hair--it's brown in the Sega set).
- Sakura Shinguji
- Ri Kouran
- Iris Chateaubriand
Other Stuff
- UFO catcher set
- Boy, wonder if Ri can use those braids as deadly weapons?
