Volks Characters
- Amanda
- Striking face paint on this gal, but the fun part happens when you spring her from her box. She's got some extra shoulder joints, so she can twist her arms around in various and sundry permutations. Here she is pretending to be a Powerpuff Girl.
- Lost Angels Amanda
- Amanda is one
of the "Lost Angels" dolls. I'm not quite sure what that entails, other
than sitting around a lot in your lingere, waiting for a map. Look at the
sculpting on this gal's face. Amazing! And here
is a shot of Amanda
and Dolla after beating up my Puffy dolls.
- Dark Angels Dolla
- Dolla is one of the Dark Angels. Here is a close-up of her face. Once again, I'm not
sure about the Dark Angels story, only to warn that, once i let her out of
the box, she kind of took over my doll room!
- Gjinalu in Swimsuit
- The "Temptation Island" version of a Dark Angel. Green hair to match her
green swimsuit. Are you tempted? Are you watching that stupid show too?
They need to make a doll of that chick with the braids!
- "Leather" Gjinalu
- I hadn't purchased any Volks stuff in a while, which probably made my credit card company quite happy. However, I was tempted back into the fold by this vixen. Not only does she have weird hair and another intriguing Volks-designed outfit (do women in Volks-land ever do anything like sit down?), her box advertises that she sports a Fearful Face. Does it look full of fear? It certainly look full of cosmetics.
-
Lost Angel Kisara
- Kisara is another Lost Angel, and she's an even more difficult case
than Sophia. Here's an image of Kisara still on her backing. And here's what
happened a minute later, after I attached her wings. See? Here's a
close-up of her mischevious expression.
- Dark Angel Lagla
- Woo-woo!
Lagla is another Dark Angel with a body that won't quit.
Think Jayne Mansfield in The Girl Can't Help It. Volks didn't give her
much to wear, poor gal. Here's an image of her face--can't wait to
redress this one, or, I mean, dress this one!
- Who's That Girl Mami
- This doll's from a new Volks line called Who's That Girl. There's two basic head molds, Kana and Mami, and they come with a variety of hairstyles and eye colors. I've redressed her in an old Barbie Fashion Avenue outfit. Mami seems to be pondering something.
- Dark Angel Mei Mei
- I had a friend in high school named Mei. She always carried around no less than six purses or bags. It used to take her half an hour to dig out spare change. That however has nothing to do with Dark Angel Mei Mei, who would probably scare my friend, Mei, to death. Mei Mei has rather lovely pink hair, don't you think?
- Shino
- Another limited edition doll from the marvelous Volks, Shino is
dressed in a shiny variation of the ubiquitous French Maid outfit. Note that
although Volks has helpfully included some flesh-colored plugs to cover
the doll's screw-holes, they have neglected to include, say, a vacuum, or
mop. Some crummy maid service she is. The doll's face reminds me of an anime
character, whose name I'm sure I will recall as soon as I've downloaded
this page.
- Sophia in Swimsuit
- This is like the "Temptation Island" version of the Lost Angels, dols
with bizarre swimsuits and bizarre hair to match!
- Lost Angels Sophia
- This doll is one of the Volks "Lost Angels" series. Some of the
dolls obviously look like angels, but I agree with Rudi, this one looks
more like EVA's Misato. The photo of the doll shows a black skirt,
which I would have preferred to her see-through slip, but
other than that little quibble, I just can't find anything wrong with this
wonderful doll. As I've said, I spent several hours sitting at the coffee
table, thinking of interesting ways to pose her. Here's an image of her
face, with those lovely
blue eyes.
- Volks Zarla
- Zarla is another gal with amazing face paint. And her outfit, complete with thigh-high lace-up boots, is nothing short of amazing.
Anime and Game Characters
- Sakura Kinomoto
- Cardcaptor Sakura is a really cute, magical girl-type show
based on a manga by CLAMP. This anime has been brought over to the US as
Cardcaptors, but, unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be showing in Seattle,
so I'll just have to buy the DVDs (they're unedited). Meanwhile, we can
enjoy the dolls. This doll was made by Volks, just like the Cowboy BeBop
doll, and the bodies are very, very similar, but look how different the
two dolls have ended up looking. Very cool.
- Muv-Luv doll
- This gal is evidently a character from a game called Muv-Luv. I liked her 'cause her hairstyle kinda reminds me of Cardcaptor Sakura.
- Niebelungenlied doll with glasses
- It's not over 'til the fat lady sings! Evidently, this gal was only available at Dollpa 9. She's from a video game based on the Niebelungenlied, ie, The Ring Cycle. I think she's supposed to be a Valkyrie, thus the little wing deal-os on her hat. Pretty blue eyes anyway.
- Ring of the Niebelungen Royce
- This is the second of three dolls made by Volks, evidently for a video game based on The Ring of the Niebelungen. And, no, I don't recall a character named "Royce" wearing kitty-cat ears in Wagner's original, but then I'm prefer power pop to opera. Be that as it may, Royce has got a damn fine eye print, and so many groovy little accessories, she requires an instruction manual! (Helpfully, it's all written in Japanese.)
- Nonoshi
- Not sure what anime she's from, but this doll is adorable! Here she is hanging with an Azone CyberTricks doll. I especially like her little jester hat.
- Ruroni Kenshin
- And finally, here's everybody's favorite samurai dude, Ruroni Kenshin. He comes with a
cool samurai sword, of course. Volks actually issued another, much more
limited version of this character as a kit. Here's a close-up of the
head, so you can see his cool scar.
- Urd
- Speaking of mischief, here's Belldandy's sister
Urd from the Ah! My
Goddess anime. Yellow Submarine has also issued a version of this
character, but I thought it would be fun to have her with a Volks
body. Here's her face.
- Faye Valentine
- This character is from the anime Cowboy BeBop, which I understand
Bandai has subtitled and dubbed for us non-Japanese speaking folks. She
uses the Volks shop's "Beauty and Sexy Type" body.
