| Japanese Fashion Dolls / Pullip
Unless otherwise organized (yeah, like that's gonna happen!) these dolls are listed, from bottom to top, in the approximate order that we got 'em.
Limited Editions, Store Exclusives, Shortpacks, and Other Such Annoyances
- Lan Ai
- This gal was in the regular Pullip line as Lan Ake's twin, but is included here as she was the shortpack. So, she's wearing a very similar Wa-Loli style outfit in a different color. But, notice that despite having different hair, the two dolls have nearly identical coloring. Here's her big old bonnet, and the obi for her short kimono, and her card.
- Little Surfer Purezza
- Yeppers, it's summertime summertime sum- sum- summertime, and time for yet another limited Pullip (you didn't think Jun Planning would let you hold on to your money for an actual vacation, did you?). Of course, being a former Cali girl, we're suckers for a big-headed surfer chick. She's got all of the usual accoutrements, including a boogie board (perfect for slamming into beachgoers stupid enough to want to go a-wading, plus sunglasses and a really, really, really big hat. We don't speak Japanese, but we're betting her card says, somewhere, "Dude!"
- Happy Birthday Injuns
- Believe it or not, this limited set is supposed to represent Sacajawea and Geronimo. Woo-woo, and all that. This is Namu as Geronimo. Note that, in the History of the World According to Jun Planning, Ger is part of the Lost Blue-Eyed Tribe. (And, yes, before you write in, we are aware that some Native Americans had blue eyes, it's just we're not convinced that Geronmino and Sacajawea were amongst them. He's definitely got some cool toys, as well as accessories we can use in our Village People dress-up set. Here's his calling card. And this is Sacajawea, who's known for being the brains behind the Lewis & Clark expedition. Note she also has blue eyes and kewl stuff, as well as some slightly anachronistic blond streaks. Her card.
- Purezza on Ice
- Another of those mondo- super- ultra-limited dolls where you end up saving the shipping carton in your garage. We've pulled her out of her box to ruin her resale value. Like all the Purezza dolls, she's purty. She's even got her own branded Pullip travelware. Here's the card and certificate to show you, by hook or by crook, she's not a free man, but rather, a number.
- Vivien
- This glamorpuss was a Japanese Toys R Us exclusive. We think she's supposed to be a Marilyn-esque movie star, or maybe just Donald Trump's latest wife. Here's her little certificate, as well as a note telling you to never immerse her in butter. (Actually,we have no clue what the note sez--can you tell?) She was the first Pullip to have SQUOOSHY BOOBS EWWWWW!!!! The insert promotes the forthcoming Sacralita.
- Purezza Floppy Hat
- I believe this gal was a Toys R Us only offer. At least, my box from a Yahoo Japan vendor included a J-TRU packing slip. She's got a hat the size of a dinner plate. Excavating beneath the haberdashery we find a cute brunette doll in a stripey dress, with polka dot underpants! Like the detail in her eyes. Here's a CU of her purse and shoes. I am the proud owner of Serial No. 270.
- Oren
- Another exclusive from the kind folks of Magma Heritage, Oren has some of the nicest coloring I've seen in this series, grey eyes and pink hair. Here's a shot of her cool sunglasses and purse. Oren is Pullip Nero's cousin. It's a PALINDROME kids, like Bolton and Notlob! Here's a snap of them side by side.
- Happy Birthday! Pullip!! set
- A rather spectacular limited edition set from Jun Planning. It comes in a shipping carton big enough to cripple your postman. I like the ersatz Rose of Versailles look of this set, though I must admit puzzlement over Namu's cowboy boots, and Pullip's platform shoes. OTOH, Pullip's bloomers are a nice touch. In addition, Namu has a cool costume ball mask, as does grey-eyed Pullip. Lots of exclamation! points!!
- Savon
- An internet-only limited edition from Jun Planning, Savon (French for "Really expensive doll") comes decked out in a robe with fuzzy slippers, and even a rubber duckie. Even better, there's an extra box with a bathtub (it's even a clawfoot tub, the bestest kind)! I am proud owner of Serial No. 142.
- Bianca
- A limited edition from Magma Heritabe, Bianca is the counterpart of the goth-ish Noir. Like Noir, she comes with a little bear in chains, and has eyes which are two different colors, although you have to look closely to see. I asked for (and received) Bianca Serial No. 133.
- Leprotto
- I believe black-eyed Leprotto was the first internet-only special Pullip. She comes wearing a stylish fuzzy bunny suit. (Shades of Donnie Darko!)
- Debut
- Like the man said, this was the very firstest Pullip. She's also the one with the green eyes that made us fall in love with this series. Aiiii! We love the details, like her backpack, and especially her real metal bicycle. And in Ye Olde Pullipe Dayse, the insert would show us every doll in the line, by cracky!
"Pullip Dolls Based on Characters from Fairy Tales or Public Domain Stories by Dead Authors so Jun Planning Doesn't Have to Pay Royalties" Series
- Little Red Riding Hood
- One her way to Grandma's house, it's Little Red Really Big Hood. Actually, it looks like Our Girl is not taking any guff from the Big Bad Wolf. Go Red! She comes with little loaves of bread and exclusive Pullip wine (today's feeling--now hung over). And don't forget the collectible card!
- The Wolf
- A girl's gotta protect herself from wolves, especially ones who like dressing like an oversized team mascot. This is Namu's first costumed role in the Land o' Pullip, though from the proto photos we've seen, it won't be the last. *shudder* Anyways, here's his baseball trading card.
- Alice in Wonderland
- The second Pullip character doll comes from one of my favorite stories of all time, Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. This doll has especially gorgeous coloring, I think. And of course, she comes with a white rabbit--he's got a monocle, but no pocket watch, alas. She also sports a deck of cards. Jun Planning has also started including collector cards of each doll in the box.
- Anne of Green Gables
- Very cute doll based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's beloved character, Anne Shirley. As devotees of the series of books know, Anne (with an "e") was an orphan girl sent to live with an older couple on Prince Edward Island. So, she's got her traveling case, as well as the world's biggest hat.
Just Regular Old Pullip
- Raphia
- Cornice's twin, in our humble opinion, don't get no respect. Her new style eyes are quite striking. What was surprising to us was that her dress, though similar in style to Cornice's, is actually made from a different pattern. Oh, and, SCARY BUNNY!! Here's her card. The box insert pitches RIDa and sexy sexy MJ.
- Cornice
- As a public service, we would like to remind everyone that Jun Planning would like us to pronounce her name Cor-NEE-chay. A cornice is an architectural feature, either the molding in the corner between the walls and ceiling, or, according to our dictionary, the uppermost part of an entablature. What's an entablature? Hey, look it up, you've got Google. Anyways, this doll has a pretty sweet, though difficult to photograph, dress, with neat-o extra-long sleeves. Eeee,
scary bunny!!! Here's her card.
- Latte
- Well, even if we weren't embarked upon an insane quest to purchase every single Pullip EVAR, we would have had to buy this gal just for the name. (Tiki is a notorious espresso addict.) Jun Planning has been experimenting with new eyes, thus, this doll has not been appreciated by all. We likes her. She's got a pretty rad bag and a pretty humongous hat. Here's her card (it should have been a punch card!), and the insert promotes the Goth Twins, Raphia 'n Cornice.
- Greggia
- BAAAAA! Greggia is the Pullip sheep girl. Why a girl in mountain goat drag? Ummm. We dunno. Some fun touches on this girl though (on reason we're addicted to these dolls), like petticoats in multiple fabrics culminating in kooky patterned panties. As is expected, she's got a way big hat, and some cute clogs. Her card is especially cute---Awwww!
- Rovam
- ARRRRRR!!! Another of our fav'rrrrite Pullips right here, mateys. She's Rrrrrrrovam, and she comes with a mighty load o' pirrrate booty and swag and stuff like that there. Here's her carrrrrrrd. Next up, Grrrrrregia the rrrram!
- Lan Ake
- Now sit back kiddies, and Tikistitch will tell ya a tale. It seems when this month's Pullip was first announced, she looked like this, which Jun Planning charmingly referred to as either a spy or a Korean policewoman. Some Pullip fans were nonplussed at the dolls resemblance to, let us say, certain rocket scientists who were just doing their job during WWII. Anyways, Teh Drama followed, at the culmination of which, Jun planning suddenly and mysteriously dropped My Little SS Pal from the release schedule, and substituted another pair of dolls, Lan Ai (more on her in a bit) and Lan Ake to the upcoming calendar. Ake is adorable, with blue hair and green eyes. We understand that this particular style can be referred to as Wa Loli, and is a twist on traditional Japanese fashion. She comes with a caged bird and rag doll, which has a clever Japanese name we can never remember. Coming up, Rrrrrovam!!!
- Paja
- Run for life! It's Paja!!!!! We were soooo looking forward to this Goji-worshipping gal. She's even got her own little plushie monster. Awww! And she wears polky dot jammies. Here's her card.
- Assa
- This doll stirred a teensy bit of controversy when she was announced, as she was to be the first openly queer Pullip. She's also definitely one of the cutest, so cute that we had to free her from her boxy enclosure, so this is one of the few images we have of the back of a Pullip doll. She's also got headphones and of course tools. Here's the insert, for the much-delayed Paja.
- Mercu
- The curly-haired cosmic twin, Mercu is one of our favest ever dollies in Dollieland. We haven't seen accessories like this since Barbie went to the moon. Her card depicts her grooving like Judy Jetson. Poor Assa will have a hard time following this pair.
- Jupi
- We've got Jupi lodged in the "Regular old Pullip" section, though she's not really "regular," as she's arguably Best. Pullip. EVAR. She's got a ray gun and and octopus!!!The title might also apply to her bestest bud, Mercu though.
- Afternoon
- So where does Afternoon go in the evening? Bet ya never puzzled over that little existential problem, eh? But of course, you've probably never spent several hours of your life (which you will never get back) hacking HTML around a cellarfull of hydrocephalic dolls, now have you? Hmm, hmm? Oh, and she has a card, too. Yay. Next ones up: Mercu and Jupi, EEEEEE!!!!
- Chicca
- NOT the fifth Marx Brother, Chicca Chicca is one of those Pullip dolls with an eccentric fashion sense. Love the bear. Chicca's
insert advertises Afternoon.
- Fanatica
- Fanatica was the cause of much wailing and gnashing of teeth amongst the Pullip-inclined. 'Cause of her kewl look and nifty, punkesque outfit, she was much in demand, however, rumors flew of a production shortfall, and thus the less ethically-inclined retailers suddenly upped the asking price as auction prices soared. Regardless, we got her for just plain retail from the indefatiguable Rudi, and are happy as a bivalve. Oh, here's her "Coming Attractions" insert, for Chicca.
- Sacralita
- Pullip has taken the Vow. At least until she figures out it means no more shopping and dating Namu. Anyways, this is Jun Planning's blessed Pullip, Sacralita. Hey, it's a miracle, we see the Virgin Mary in...um...a Virgin Mary statue. Oh well. It looks like she also ripped off a Gideon Bible from the last time she stayed at Holiday Inn.
- China China
- Sooo, which ethnic stereotype d'ya think this doll, China China, is supposed to represent? Hmmmm. Icelandic, maybe? We really dig her faux Cecil the Sea-Sick Sea Serpent puppet though.
- Mitzi
- It's Catgirl! Um, does anybody else remember Mitzi? It's weird, 'cause, we know we have this doll, after all, there's photographic evidence. But, other than recalling with cynicism Jun Planning's obvious pandering to Moon freaks, we're not sure exactly where we left the box. Hmmm. And, coming soon, mods public domain characters!
- Fourrure
- A.K.A., La Dolce Vita Pullip! Doesn't this gal look like she belongs in an Italian movie? Look at those oversized sunglasses, and little pointy shoes. Here's her collector card.
- Panda
- Yet another furry, furry doll from Jun Planning. Panda has some nice facial coloring and light pink hair. She's even got glasses. Here's her card, showing her relaxing between deliveries.
- Principessa
- Striking coloring on this gal, as her bright blue eyes match her outfit. She comes with a special Pullip stand and funky platform shoes. The booklet enclosed with this doll shows all the previous dolls in the series, as well as the newest Namu, Serpent.
- Arietta
- Arietta is Nomado's blond twin, with a headfull of cool dreads. She comes with a pink bag that's quite similar to the one Vispo carries. Her shoes have neat little hearts drawn on the soles, and the material for her overalls and hat has writing scribbled over it.
- Nero
- Here's a look with her alter-ego, Oren
- Nomado
- SQUEEE!!! Purple dreadlocks!!! Which go so well with her purple eyes. She also comes with a funky gee-tar.
- Venus
- One of the few Pullip dolls with a tanned skin tone, odd since our little beauty contest winner has white hair and pink eyes of an albino clone.
- Withered
- Why is Withered one of my fave Pullip dolls ever? Coordination, dude! Her tan eyes match her taupe coat, which appears to be constructed of the same material as her strange little doggie. Shades of Cruella De Vil?
- Noir
- Far and away my favorite Pullip to date is the goth girl Noir, a vaguely menacing girl with one brown and one blue eye. She's accompanied by a chained bear. Her face paint is pretty spectacular, including a chain from lip to ear. She looks like she's up to something.
- Carol
- It's a very Pullip Christmas with Carol, the gal in the Santa suit. She even comes with a mini Xmas tree, although she looks a bit in need of a Prozac to help her through the holidays.
- Squall
- Squall is a doll with gobs and gobs o' hair. She's one of the few Pullip dolls who have a dark skin tone (Venus is another). Here's her cute little shopping basket (I guess so she can go out gathering dasies in the storm or something). Here she is, freed from her box.
- Bouquet
- Squall's little buddy, Bouquet, who's got a rather haunting set of lavendar eyes, I must say. She comes with some Hallmark-moment-ready flowers (well, duh!).
- Street
- Street
Street is one of the first set of Pullips (along with
Wind and Moon). She was definitely worth the wait, with stunning yellow eyes. Street is supposed to be a skate punk, though I'm not sure whoat tricks the laws of gravity play on such an enormous head. She's got a great messenger bag, with a teeny clip that really works.
Pullip's Boytoy, Namu
- Fay
- China China's equally stereotypical boyfriend, Fay (Jun Planning is an Equal Opportunity Offender). We seem to remember that he was promoted as a martial arts expert, natch. Pretty kewl specs though, we must say.
- Serpent
- This slinky boy is supposed to be Principessa's bf. We're not sure we like his looks, but he did bring her some dead roses.
- Trunk
- I keep wanting to call this guy "Trunks," after the DBZ character. As usual, he is just a leetle too big for the box. He's got a lot of neat superfluous zippers on his outfit, and a pretty cool fanny pack.
- Vispo
- Is the first male Pullip friend too big for his britches? No, but he's arguably too big for his box. That can't be good for your posture. Vispo comes with a manly sports bag and a rather startled expression.
