Who is the Bobagirl???

Jenny / Friends / Shion

All My Shions

For those who have been living in a cave inside my doll pile for the last couple of years, Shion (Takara also calls her "Sion" or "Tion" at its whim) is one of Jenny doll's newer friends. She's actually yet another incarnation of Kisara, only with a straight-ahead glance. Her origin falls around the time the marketing geniuses at Takara were heavily promoting the horrible "Photogenic body" for Jenny, but we will forgive her that.

Play Line Dolls

Most of these gals come with the dreaded "Photogenic" body, a.k.a., the PG body, a.k.a., the Gumby body. As you can tell, I'm not a big fan. (The hands are SCARY! They look like the Claws of Death.)

Photogenic Shion in Leopard
This is the first Shion I can recall buying. She has the brown eyeprint that's been used for most of her namesakes since. I do love the red lips on this doll.
Fashion Station Shion in Pink
Shion had now graduated to being one of Jenny's "Fashion Station" buddies, along with Loberia, another new friend. This pink-lipped doll has a kind of mesh hair that was very frustrating to photograph.
Fashion Station Studio Street Shion
This is Shion's Studio Street outfit, although I'm a bit cluless why someone would have their studio out in the street. Must be a Japanese thing. Very pale peach lips and brown eyes on this doll. I love the little bitty hearts on her tights.
Sweet Bambini Shion with curls
OK, so how could you NOT like a doll called "Sweet Bambini?" At this stage, Shion got a whole selection of fashions. These dolls have a lot of fun accessories, like a pink floppy hat for this doll, and elaborate hairstyles. In fact, when I took this gal out of the box to photograph, her curls had so much styling gel they actually crackled when I tried to move them. Shion better stay away from lit matches!
Sweet Bambini Shion with two tails
Another elaborate hairstyle on this gal: the pony tails are protected by an elaborate system of elaborate plastic bags. Yet another doll with brown eyes, though I notice now they used a teeny bit of blue on her lower lashes.
Idol Shion
One of my faves! Shion here wearsan absolutely hysterical outfit, including platform thigh-high boots, "thingy-boppers" for her head, and what looks like a pink throw pillow on her chest. Look out, Puffy! Yet another doll with brown eyes/pale brown hair. But the coolest thing: finally a normal, non-PG body!
June 2003 Calendar Girl Shion
Shion finally makes it into the ranks of calendar girls. I'm not sure what this gal's major is supposed to be: she has pink slippers and a face mask. Asbestos removal student? Anyways, I love theauburn color hair.

Kimono dolls

I wasn't aware how many kimono Shion dolls Takara had produced until I started digging through my doll shelves. I like 'em 'cause I tend to like dark hair on Shion.

Kimono Shion in pink
This gal has a PG body. Like the black hair.
Kimono Shion in red
And another PG body. This one has clouds and clouds of curly black hair and red lips.
Castle Kimono Shion
This gal's from the Licca-chan Castle, and has the normal Jenny body. She looks great with a very simple haircut with bangs, and very pale peach lips.
Castle Shion in new year kimono
This is another doll I waited a bit to get. She's even prettier in person than in the images I'd seen. Nice big blue eyes and dark brown hair too.

Totoco

Totoco, a little teeny tiny shop in Japan which specializes in Jenny, has had a nice selection of very simple Shion dolls. And even better news, all of them have normal bodies. No scary Claw Hands!

Totoco long-haired Shion
This gal has her dark hair gathered in a very simplesingle high pony tail. And she's got a groovy blue stand! If you really squooch your eyes, you can see that Shion's eyes have funny blue highlights, which I don't believe I've seen on the any of the play line dolls.
Totoco short-haired Shion
It's Bob*Girl Shion! Shion here has an unusual short haircut. I like dark hair on Shion.
Totoco silver Shion
I think this doll was a special for some doll show. (As Daffy Duck might say, "Doll show, schmall show, as long as it's Shion!") She's wearing a fun outfit, and the silver hair is just stunning.

Licca-chan Castle Shion

SQUEALIES! Now we are getting to my ultra-fave in the world set of Shion dolls.

Thanks Fair Shion with silver hair
I was a little taken aback by the elaborate hairstyle when I first received this doll. As you might know, Thanks Fair promotional literature typically includes grainy, postage stamp-sized images of the upcoming dolls. However, I was and remain totally blown away by her huuuuuge blue eyes.
JTB Shion with wine hair
Sigh. It's the Best Shion Ever. Lets just shut up and look! Shion. Shion.. And more Shion.
JTB Shion wearing Harajuku outfit
Egad! I forgot a Shion!!! Can you forgive me? I promise to eat my vegetables. Needless to say, I love this gal's simple bob haircut, blue eyes, and cool outfit. Thanks, Tania!
Birthday Shion
Another blue eyed-winner. Love the little purse. And the Princess Leia buns!
Castle To Go Shion
So far, this is my only Shion with green eyes. It won't be the last, nossir!
Thanks Fair Shion with pink hair
How could I possibly resist a Shion doll with weird hair and blue eyes? 'Tisn't possible!
Castle Shion with green hair
This kooky doll with emerald green hair was only available at some Licca Castle JTB tour that I think never happened. HOWEVER! For those of use who are Castle-impaired, it also pops up with alarming frequency on Yahoo! Japan Auctions. She's got purple eyes. Ain't that cool?
Castle To Go Shion with wine hair
Wine hair and Shion, goes together like kahlua and cream. (Sorry, Tiki Goddess Kisara has got me wishing for a drink with a big umbrella in it.) This is the second (that I know about) Castle Shion with wine hair. This was a Castle "To Go" doll, which begs the question of whether the Castle now has a drive through. ("Talk to the clown!") Anyways, the first wine Shion had blue eyes, and this one has brown eyes.

Yet More Special Shions

Jenny's Club S Shion in pantsuit
This was my first ever blue-eyed Shion. I won the right to buy it by winning a Biscuit's Club poetry contest. Part of my opus went, "And Shion has pur-ple pants/She wants to ask Raph to dance." There's no accounting for taste, lucky me! What's very cool about this doll: Super action body!! (CORRECTION: Bzzzt! Wrong. Nooo, the cool thing is the tan. Shion comes with the standard Jenny body. (Thanks, Gina!)
Licca-chan Club 67 Shion
Why am I a freak about this very simple brunette? Super Action Body, baby!
Shopping Channel Shion
The Japanese equivalent of Home Shopping put out a fantastic boxed set of dolls, which I presume portray various of the channel hostesses. Or perhaps they just portray completely random Japanese celebrities!
