Who is the Bobagirl???

Jenny / Friends / Kisara

Early Kisara dolls

Kisara sprung up in Jenny's posse in 1986. Here are a few of the earlier issued Kisara dolls.

Daitokuji Kisara in red
One of the second batch of Kisara dolls ever released (the first bunch, issued a couple of months earlier, was all dressed in black and white) this Kisara was released in 1986. She's usually referred to as Daitokuji Kisara, after her full name, written on the box. She has a short, spikey hairdo, along with a separate little "rat tail" braid, which makes her look very punkish.
Super Stage Kisara
This was one of a set of three Super Stage dolls released in 1987 (the other members consisted of Ellie, as a sax player, and Jenny as, of course, and idol singer). The Complete Jenny File lists two other varieties of this doll, all clad in red and black (love the musical note sox on this one!). Here's a close-up of her face.
Kisara as Shiranui Mai
A Jenny shop special, this Kisara was dressed up like a character from a video game called "Hungry Wolf Legend." (As far as I know, the game is not based on the song by X, though it should have been!) I like the black hair and red lips on this one. Oh, and this doll didn't make it to the Complete Jenny File, which we will now dub the Incomplete Jenny File.
Circus Bravo Kisara
Circus Bravo was one of Ellie's schemes. Interestingly, Jenny was not invited to participate! Instead, the co-consipirators were good time girl Lina, slacker Raph, and of course, my gal Kisara. Kisara is supposed to be tightrope walker, not a disgraced former CEO of a lifestyle company, and that is the reason for the white parasol in her box. Here's a little pic of her face. Nice pink lips!
Ellie's Club 92 Kisara
When will I have enought Kisara dolls? Heck, I don't know! This older Kisara comes with oodles of curly blond hair.
Totoco Pigtails Kisara
Despite the red JeNnY box, this is indeed a special Kisara from 1996. Here is a look at the doll out of the box, and a close-up of her face. Thanks to the gang at Biscuit's Club for help in ID-ing this doll!!!

Castle dolls

Thanks Fair Kisara with poufs
Egad there's that silly Super Model Jenny outfit again. Now, c'mon, what this doll really remind you of? All together, M-I-C, K-E-Y....
Thanks Fair Kisara with Princess Leia 'do
Hey, nice buns!
Thanks Fair Kisara with red hair (x 2)
OK, sometimes I buy an extra doll because I really like it, and sometimes I'm just stupid. Anyway, nice hair.
Thanks Fair Kisara with blond hair
No clue how this girl might have sneaked into my collection. She is not weird at all! She does have incredibly pouty lips though.
Thanks Fair Kisara with red-blond hair
This one is kinda pretty, with a Veronica Lake-ish peekabo haircut.
Thanks Fair Kisara with braids
OK, I'll have to admit I'm a bit more amused than awed by this specimen. Those overside braids sprouting out of the top of her head are partially to blame, as is the Pebble Flintstone-influenced dress.
Thanks Fair Kisara with long brown hair
Speaking of the Flintstones, check out the outfit on this gal! Is it like yabba dabba doo or what? Though, I do really like the long, thick brown hair.
"Tiki Goddess" Kisara
I've been having absolutely rotten luck lately with the outfits they've been slapping on my Castle dolls. I mean, enough with the pink denim jackets, folks! I was therefore pleased as the proverbial punch when this purple-haired gal arrived, clad in a matching purple tiki goddess outfit. fun doll, huh?
Castle Kisara with silver hair
Is Kisara going grey? I believe this may've been a Thanks Fair doll of some sort. Then again, maybe not. Nevertheless, dig the silver hair.

Totoco

Bondage Kisara
One of my favoite-est Totoco dolls, this Kisara sports the most outrageous outfit, a black, leather-look outfit complete with knee-high boots and feather boa. Very nice face paint too on this one.
Kisara with blond 'fro
Dyn-o-mite! Kisara's looking tanned, rested and ready with her spiffy blond 'fro.
Kisara with brunette 'fro
Solid! Do I hear the Cleopatra Brown soundrack cueing up? Another great 70s flashback Kisara with a righteous brunetteafro hairdo.
Kisara with short red hair
It came from Totoco! It's Kisara, and it's got weird hair! Can Pam resist the temptation? Not on your life!
Kisara with long red hair
The worst decision for folks like me (Kisara fetishists with a yen for weird haired dolls) is: which Kisara to choose? Being the woman with no will power, it's no choice for me, I gotta have all of 'em!
Kisara with short blue hair
These dolls were available with this blunt cut, or with super-long hair. And all in this neat Morticia Addams-style dress, with a spooky pattern on the box.
Kisara with long blue hair
In a shameless bit of pandering to Kisara fans world wide, the Totoco shop created a series of weird-haired Kisara dolls.
Kisara with short green hair
Yet another Totoco special (note the stripey box what sez "Totoco")! And yet another cool doll from Rudi! Here's a shot of the doll out of box, and a close up of her face.
Kisara with short pink hair
Identical cousins! Well, except one has green hair, and this one has pink hair. But otherwise. Needless to say, love the pink hair.
Kisara with long black hair
Oh, Kisara, how you tempt me with those darned side-glancing eyes!
Kisara with short black hair
Well, as you know, the Totoco shop has caught on to collectors' fascination with this side-glancing Jenny friend, so they've been issuing Kisara variations up the yin-yang. Along with the red- and blue-haired dolls, there are two variations of this black-haired Kisara, with long and short hair. I think this one, with a bob actually looks more like Lie than Kisara. (Course, it's six of one, half dozen of the other, since it's kind of arbitrary on Takara's part who they call Lie and who they call Kisara.)
Kisara with with silver hair
Oooooo, nice. One of my faves, Kisara with oodles and oodles and oodles of silver hair and blue eyes.

Takara Bako

Kisara with lavender hair
It's soooooo hard picking your favorite Kisara. This one is definitely in my all time top ten. I am absolutely nuts over her bizarre hair color. Lavender? I don't even think I know of any anime characters offhand who have lavender hair. True, she needs a better outfit. And some boots. And maybe a chainsaw. But still, a classic.
Kisara with huge curly hair
Not technically a 'fro doll, but she's got some pretty serious stuff happening with the hair. When you take her out of the box, the hair literally makes a "FOOOOOF" sound from being released. I was afraid of putting her back, lest she'd be smothered, then I remembered she's a vinyl doll. Heh, silly me.
Kisara (?) with a bob
Hrrrrrm. Now that I have this doll on my page, I'm wondering if she's really a Kisara, or if she's maybe a Lie, or even a Rie, or whatever, in disguise. Unfortunately, the early onset of Mad Cow Disease seems to have wiped the memory from my brain.
Kisara with blond/red hair
Ooooo, this doll is so cool! Unfortunately, my Kodak is too fussy to really get a great picture. Her hair is blond with bright red streaks.

Other "Exclusive" dolls

Club 67 Kisara with color-change hair
These dolls were supposedly only available at the opening of the new Licca-chan Club 67 boutique in Japan, and sold out within hours. However, they still seem to be relatively easy to find on the auction boards. Who could bear to sell a doll this wonderful? We dare not speculate!
Club 67 Kisara with short brown hair
This gal's got shoulder-length brown hair and bangs. The Licca-chan Club 67 dolls are very cute, but annoyingly hard to come by.
Kiddyland Kisara with orange hair
One of a set of Super Action-bodied, weird-haired dolls issued by the Japanese toy store Kiddland a few years back. This gal's got bright orange hair.
Shopping Channel Kisara
This set was evidently available from the Japanese equivalent of QVC. Of course, I felt compelled to buy because the set featured not only a Shion, but a special Kisara.

Odds and Sods

Kisara with blond curly hair
Another in Takara's "Let's see just how many Kisara dolls those fools will buy before they scream!" series. I guess the answer is, "Lots." This is kind of a California beach-girl incarnation of our fave side-glancing Jenny friend. Note from a peek inside the box that she come with just about everything a girl needs: designer underwear, and a set of black stiletto heels.
Samba Carnival Kisara
Big-hair Kisara! This is from yet another Jenny series. The Jenny in the set has big blue hair!
Casual Jenny List Kisara
Here's one of my fave rave Kisara dolls of all time! It's a custom Jenny doll, made especially for fans and friends of Darla Tanaka's Casual Jenny mailing list. The doll has a Kisara head mold rooted with long, straight black hair, and the "Jenny 18" body. She's wearing a little custom "Casual Jenny @ hashi.com" mini-dress, and comes with shoes and (of course) a shopping bag, so she can go shopping at Totoco. If you'll look closely, you can see the little CJ button made especially by Darla's niece.
Kisara in a Kimono
Kisara is Jenny's punk-ish friend, but she's looking quite composed in her formal kimono. Muchos gracias to Rudi Teruel for the Kisara!
Fifteenth Anniversary Kisara
Fifteenth anniversary of what? Well, whatever! It's always time for another Kisara. Here's the doll loose. I really think they did a good job on the hair on this gal--even though it isn't pink, for once.
School Coordinate Kisara
.....or, as I like to call her, "Kogal Kisara." Isn't she cute? I love the pale lips. Takara really has a knack for making school kid dolls that really look like school kids.
Grey box Kisara
Proof positive, you can never be too rich, or have to many Kisara dolls. This is a Totoco "grey box" special.
Nice Jenny Kisara
"Nice Jenny" is a series of dolls which are, er, nicer than your run of the mill friends. This one I like to call "Runaway Bride Kisara," both because of the terrified look on her face, and because of the kooky outfit, which looks something like a tiered wedding cake. She's even got a horrible floppy hat. If the outfit were dyed fuschia, it would probably make a pretty terrible bridesmaid ensemble.

Rie, Lies and Videotape

Endless Jenny
This Jenny doll is supposed to be a "race queen," much like these two babes. I've seen a number of Japanese "race queen" dolls, but I have yet to figure out her majesty's exact role in the pit crew. Given the skimpiness of her costume, I somehow doubt it has anything to do with lug nuts. Anyway, the other suspicious thing about this doll is that even though they insist on calling her "Jenny," take a look at her head mold!
Thanks Fair Lie with wine hair
Ooooo, pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty!
Club 67 Lie with brown hair
So what's the difference between Rie/Lie and Kisara? One clue is that Lie often has the standard Jenny body, whereas Kisara has a somewhat smaller body, with collarbones. Otherwise, it's just the same gosh-darned head mold.
Takara Bako Rie
Speaking of exclusives (does this seem to be an annoying theme in Jenny collecting?), check out this Bako Rie, which was exclusively available through the Takara Bako web site. Rie is a.k.a. Bob Girl Lie, alias, Kisara. That is, Rie and Kisara share the same head mold. I believe we once tried to figure out on Casual Jenny what makes a doll a Rie, and what makes her a Kisara, but I think the answer was, "Whatever Takara says." Here's a close up of those great side-glancing eyes.
Bob*Girl Lie
Once upon a time, Jenny had a punky friend called Kisara. Pam wanted a Kisara doll, and kept calling David Hammon to get one. David recommended Lie, since she's basically the same doll, only for some reason, she's been given a "hilbilly" image. I usually dress Lie in Kisara-like outfits, but this is her original overalls.
Grey box Lie
From time to time (actually, nearly every day, it's so annoying!) Takara will reissue various of Jenny friends, so everybody has to go buy another new set of dolls. This is a reissue of a doll very similar to the original Bob*Girl Lie doll, pictured above. Note the similar hairstyle.
Prince Charles
OK, so why am I including this dude in the foofy outfit in our rogue's gallery today? Prince Charles is actually supposed to be one of Licca-chan's friends. But, look closely at his face. Recognize that head mold? That's Jenny's (female) friend, Kisara. They even left the earrings!
