- Puffy
- I don't believe it--I had literally been looking for these puppies for
two years when they just popped up on eBay one day. I case you don't
know, Puffy is a pair of "idol singers" who, as is the case for idol
singers, have minimal talent, but are darned cute. This set was
impossible to find, even for folks in Japan. Here's the
back of the box, to give you an
idea of the packaging. These are the elusive dolls themselves. And here are
close-ups of the faces of Ami and
Yumi.
- Puffy II
- This second set of Takara dolls was a bit less hare-raising to locate
(I got mine from Jade's web page). Here's a scan of the back of the box. And these are
the dolls themselves. (And
no, I have no clue what their somewhat sinister call for "Puffylization"
may signify.) Here is a close up of the faces of Ami and Yumi. Now, off to find some
SMAP
dolls!
- Yoshiki in "Rose" Outfit
- One of the weirder side-alley's in Jenny's history was Takara's
desision to add to Jenny's overflowing cocktail party of friends and
boyfriends an additional line of celebrity friends. The first in
this series was an androgynous rock drummer named Yoshiki. In addition to
this amazing, rose-bedecked outfit, Yoshiki was available in white or
blue.
- Uno Kanda
- Uno Kanda is one of Jenny's friends who are based on real-life
celebrities (much like Barbie's "friend," Rosie O'Donnell). The packaging
job on this doll is very elaborate, as she comes stuck between pages of a book. The doll
itself has a Super Action
body. I don't know much about Uno Kanda, but from looking at the pictures, she would seem to be
the Japanese version of Cindy Lauper.
- Uno Kanda
- Uno Kanda is one of a series of Jenny celebrity "friends," in addition
to Starlight Yoshiki (the androgynous X Japan drummer) and Yuki Amani. I
like the Austin Powers-like mock 60's look of this doll. Groovy, baby!
- Hinano Yoshikawa
- Jenny's newest, bestest friend, the Pippi Longstocking-coiffed Hinano
Yoshikawa. The doll is a scream, and the special heart-shaped box just
adds to the fun. My friend Leslie really wanted to buy this doll, too,
but in a holiday-inspired mood of pure avarice, I bought Masaki's only
one. 'Tis the season to be greedy! :-)
