Did you ever ever ever expect to see Cardcaptor Sakura stuff in
a Stateside Toys R Us? Well, here's the next best thing. Trendmasters
has issued a series of six 8" scale
dolls, very similar to the Bandai Japan series that was out last year.
(I have some one to one matchups down below if you're interested in the
comparison.) Plus a fuzzy talking Kero! (Who doesn't know how to
pronounce his own name, oh well.)
- Talking Kero
- "I sense a Clow card!" It looks like Trendmasters sensed some $$$$,
based on the stack of these puppies (oh, I'm sorry, he's actually a little
lion thing, correct) on the shelves at Tar-jay. Is Cardcaptors really
that popular here? Well, geez, I kinda hope so!
- Sakura in Summer School
Uniform
- Not sure why they didn't make Sakura in her more familiar winter
school uniform. But notice she's got a little backpack, clow wand, and a
teeny-weeny Kero.
- Pink Kitty Sakura
- One of three Sakura dolls in this series dressed in fighting outfits.
Once again, this outfit has been made in the Bandai Japan series. Note
she has the same clow wand and Kero accessories as the other Sakura dolls.
- Blue Warrior Sakura
- Another fighting outfit, same Kero and wand.
- Green Fairy Sakura
- This is probably my least favorite of the three fighting outfits.
Like Blue Warrior, I don't believe this outfit has appeared in the Bandai
Japan set yet.
- Li with Sword
- Li in his fighting outfit.
- Mei Lin
- Mei in her fighting outfit. I'm glad they're making new characters,
but poor Mei Lin doesn't even have any accessories!
- Bandai vs.
Trendmasters Sakura dolls
- The Bandai Japan doll is on the left. Note the similar body. It does
appear Trendmasters has made a new head mold at least. I really prefer
the packaging on the Bandai set. Note especially the detail in Sakura's
"kitty ears" on the Bandai vs. Trendmasters dolls.
- Bandai vs. Trendmasters Li
dolls
- The differences between the sets become a lot more apparent with Li.
Note that the Bandai doll has rooted hair, and a molded plastic cap,
whereas the Trendmasters doll has molded hair, and a cloth cap (he looks a
little squash-faced). The Bandai Li also comes with more good stuff, like
a collector card, and little bitty doll-sized clow cards.
